Get Up Adventures is an innovative charity recovery programme that combines hiking, outdoor adventure and mental health support to help people build confidence, connection and a stronger sense of wellbeing.
Bringing together experienced mental health professionals, outdoor instructors and community partners, participants develop practical recovery skills while challenging themselves in nature, building supportive relationships and discovering what they are capable of.
We work with marginalised communities to show them that the mountains are a welcome place for everyone.
John knows first-hand how hard it can be to get up and get out when your head is heavy — and how much it matters when you do. As a mental health advocate he speaks openly about his own journey, and Get Up Adventures is that story turned into action: a hand on the shoulder that says come on, we're going anyway, and you're coming with us.
Cara is an accredited psychotherapist who has been practising since 2011. In 2019 she founded Hike Psych, Ireland's first hiking psychotherapy practice — combining the proven benefits of the outdoors with professional therapy. She brings that same understanding, warmth and inclusivity to every Get Up adventure.

Not the summit, not the distance. Getting out the door is the hard part, and we celebrate it.
Every body, every pace, every background. No gear snobbery, no fitness tests, no judgement.
Side by side on a trail, conversations happen that never would across a table. We make room for them.
Connection is as important as the walk itself. Come once and you'll know people; come twice and they'll know you.
